Ford Escape Warning Lamps and Indicators

Before we get started, it’s important to note that many of the dashboard lights will perform an initial check when you first start your vehicle. Lights should illuminate briefly and then shut off. If any light remains on or turns on while driving, then this could be a sign of a potential problem.

• Airbag (front): This dashboard light shows a seated passenger wearing their safety belt with an inflated airbag in front of them. If the light is blinking or remains illuminated after startup, there might be a problem with the front airbag. Schedule service as soon as possible.
• Battery: Like the name implies, this light looks like a car battery with a positive and a negative end. If it turns on, then a malfunction has occurred. Turn off any electrical equipment that you don’t need (such as the radio) and have the vehicle serviced immediately.
• Low tire pressure warning: While it may look like an odd horseshoe with an exclamation mark inside it, this light actually depicts a tire with low air pressure. If the light is steady, then one or more tires may need air. If blinking, then you should have the vehicle inspected by a certified Ford technician.
• Service engine soon: Most of us who have been driving for a few years are familiar with this dashboard light. But for new drivers, this is one you need to know. It looks like a motor and can be flashing or steady, depending on the issue. If it’s flashing then your engine may be misfiring. Avoid heavy acceleration and deceleration and get to an authorized Ford dealer immediately. If the light is steady, then another malfunction may have occurred that should be inspected by a technician.
• Traction and Stability Control: The car shape with two curved lines beneath it will flash when the Traction and Stability Control system is active. Proceed with caution until traction is regained. If the light is steady, then a malfunction has occurred and the Ford Escape needs to be inspected by a technician.
