2018 Ford F-150 vs GMC Sierra

When traveling around Cerritos, Long Beach, and Anaheim for work or leisure, it helps to be in a dependable and capable truck. Two worthwhile options are the F-150 and Sierra 1500. Which one would completely satisfy your driving needs?

To help answer that question, we created this 2018 Ford F-150 vs. GMC Sierra comparison. Learn all about these trucks below, and contact us at Norm Reeves Ford Superstore Cerritos if you have any questions.

Towing & Hauling Capabilities

The 2018 Ford F-150 has best-in-class towing of up to 13,000 pounds, when properly equipped. Plus, it has best-in-class payload of 3,270 pounds. All in all, the F-150 can easily tow and haul all your necessary work equipment.

The 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 also has an impressive towing capability. However, at 12,500 pounds, it doesn't quite measure up to the F-150. Plus, its maximum payload is just 2,170 pounds.

Both trucks offer lots of features to help make towing easier. They include a trailer brake controller and Hill Descent Control™. The latter uses anti-lock braking to help stay in control when descending a normal or bumpy hill.

The F-150 also offers Pro Trailer Backup Assist™. Backing up a trailer involves navigating two vehicles at the same time: the truck going one way and the trailer going another. With the assist feature, simply rotate a knob left or right in the direction you want the trailer to go.

Unfortunately, because this feature is class-exclusive, you won't find it in the GMC Sierra.

Performance Specs

The 2018 F-150 comes standard with a 3.3L Ti-VCT V6 engine that produces 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. There are four other engine options available, including the H.O. 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 engine. This one generates 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque.

The power ratings of the standard engine in the 2018 Sierra are pretty comparable to the F-150. Its 4.3L EcoTec3 V6 engine delivers 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. However, its most powerful engine, a 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine, produces just 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.

Fuel economy is not often thought about when it comes to trucks. However, having good fuel economy is beneficial when you're spending all day driving from job site to job site.

If this is important to you, then you may want to consider the Ford F-150. It can achieve up to an EPA-estimated 20 city/26 highway MPG. Meanwhile, the GMC Sierra 1500 can only achieve up to an EPA-estimated 18 city/24 highway MPG.

Cutting-Edge Technologies

The F-150 and Sierra 1500 have plenty of high-tech features to help make your drives more enjoyable. For instance, they both offer Bluetooth® technology to stream audio or make hands-free phone calls.

They also each offer Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™. Plug your compatible smartphone into the truck's USB port, and your music playlists, podcasts, and more can be accessed on the display screen.

Furthermore, each truck has an 8-inch touchscreen, HD Radio™, navigation, and SiriusXM® Satellite Radio in their higher trim levels.

Plus, you can take advantage of the Wi-Fi hotspot found in these trucks. In fact, you can connect up to 10 devices in the F-150. This way, everyone on board can stay connected to the internet, no matter where you travel.

Furthermore, the F-150 has an available 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, to hear everything in crystal-clear sound. The Sierra, meanwhile, has just a 7-speaker sound system in its highest trim level.

Ford F-150 vs GMC Sierra: Verdict

The technologies in the F-150 and Sierra 1500 are comparable. However, the 2018 Ford F-150 has a more powerful and fuel-efficient performance, along with better towing and hauling capabilities.
