2018 Ford Expedition vs Chevy Tahoe

Driving around family, friends, or co-workers often requires a large SUV with enough space and features to keep everyone happy. Two viable options around the Cerritos, Long Beach, and Anaheim areas are the Ford Expedition and Chevrolet Tahoe. Which one would be right for you?

To help answer that question, our team at Norm Reeves Ford Superstore Cerritos created this 2018 Ford Expedition vs. Chevy Tahoe comparison. Read all about these vehicles below, and contact us if you have any questions.

Ford Expedition vs Chevy Tahoe: Passenger & Cargo Room

The 2018 Ford Expedition and 2018 Chevy Tahoe each seat eight, with plenty of room to stretch out. For example, the Expedition has the following interior dimensions:

  • First legroom: 43.9 inches
  • Second legroom: 41.5 inches
  • Third legroom: 36.1 inches
  • Passenger volume: 171.9 cubic feet

The first row in the Tahoe is a little bit roomier, with 45.3 inches of legroom. However, its next two rows might be a little cramped for passengers. It has just 39 inches of second-row legroom and 24.8 inches of third-row legroom.

The difference in cargo room is even more noticeable between these two SUVs. When the second and third rows are folded down in the Expedition, you'll get 104.6 cubic feet. Meanwhile, the Tahoe only gives you 94.7 cubic feet behind its first row.

Interior Amenities

Both vehicles have plenty of amenities to help keep everyone on board comfortable. They each offer leather-trimmed heated front- and second-row seats, as well as a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel. They also each offer ventilated front seats to help keep cool during the warmer months.

However, all of these features are available in the base trim of the Expedition through an options package. If you want to get any of them in the Tahoe, you'll need to automatically upgrade to a higher trim level.

Another feature that's an option in the base trim of the Expedition is the 10-way power driver and passenger seats. This is so you can get in that perfect position when sitting up front. Again, you'll need to upgrade to a higher trim level in the Tahoe to get this feature.

Performance Specs

The Ford Expedition comes standard with a 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 that puts out 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. The Chevrolet Tahoe, meanwhile, comes standard with a 5.3L V8. However, it's not as powerful, as it delivers just 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque.

It's not as fuel-efficient, either. The Tahoe achieves an EPA-estimated 16 city/23 highway MPG. The Expedition, on the other hand, achieves an EPA-estimated 17 city/24 highway MPG.1

Not only can you drive the Expedition farther for longer, you can also tow heavy equipment to your destination. Whether you're attaching equipment for work or play, this Ford SUV has a maximum towing capacity of 9,300 pounds, when properly equipped.

The Tahoe can tow heavy equipment, too, but its maximum capacity falls a bit short, at 8,600 pounds.

Ford Expedition vs Chevy Tahoe: Verdict

These large SUVs are impressive enough for any driver in Cerritos, Long Beach, and Anaheim. However, the 2018 Ford Expedition has a bigger interior, more available features at the base trim, and a better all-around performance.

If you're wanting to experience the Expedition in person, then schedule a test drive at Norm Reeves Ford Superstore Cerritos today!
